A 1099 needs to be filed by you and/or your business for each person to whom you paid during the year:
- At least $10 in royalties
- At least $600 in rents, services, prizes and awards, medical and health care payments, and various other payments (please contact us if you are curious if a payment you have made is subject to 1099 filing rules).
- At least $600 in attorney fees.
Examples of common payments that do not require a 1099 to be filed:
- Payments made in exchange for goods.
- Payments made to a corporation.
